Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a chronic disorder characterised by widespread muscoskeletal pain, fatigue and multiple tender points. These “tender points” refer to sensitivity that occurs in precise localised areas, particularly in the neck, spine, shoulders and hips. People with this syndrome may also experience sleep disturbances, morning stiffness, irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety and other symptoms.

Relief Is Closer Than It Seems

However, it doesn’t have to be all bad news. Over the years, we have treated thousands of patients, and a very high percentage have found their way back to recovery – even when it seemed there was no light at the end of the tunnel.

Cause of your Fibromyalgia

It is thought that there are nearly 2 million people suffering from fibromyalgia in the uk with 90% of those being female. The exact cause of fibromyalgia is unknown and because many other symptoms mimic those of other diseases, it is very difficult to diagnose. Currently fibromyalgia is recognised by:- Widespread joint and muscle pain that has been present for at least three months. Pain at 11 of the 18 specific tender/trigger points. Other symptoms that are less common but can occur are constipation or diarrhoea, headaches, difficulty concentrating, tingling sensation in the hand and severe or excessive fatigue. At the Ipswich Spine Clinic we take a comprehensive approach to evaluating and designing a specific care plan. Nutrition, exercise and regular chiropractic adjustments have all been shown to play a role in reducing pain and other symptoms, whilst improving whole body health.
