Chiropractic – What is a Subluxation?
According to the Association of Chiropractic Colleges, a subluxation is a complex of functional, structural, or pathological changes in a joint that disrupts nerve integrity and can affect organ function and overall health.
When a subluxation occurs, it interferes with the nerves connected to the affected area of the body. This interference not only impacts nerve function but also alters the structure of the spine itself. Over time, these changes can worsen, leading to a process known as subluxation degeneration.
By examining the type and extent of these changes, chiropractors can often estimate how long a subluxation has been present in the spine. This information is valuable in determining the level of correction needed and the time required to restore proper function.
